Burnout's Impact on Health Professionals
  • The Covid Pandemic: Exacerbated an already struggling and crumbling systems in many if not all healthcare settings.
  • You are not alone: Reports from 2020 share that 49% of Healthcare workers have cried at work in the past year with 67% of nurse practitioners admitting to crying at work as well due to overwhelming stress, pressure, moral injury and increased workloads.  Statistics tell us that 1 in 3 doctors are burnt out at any given time.
  • Increased Staffing Shortages: Nearly half of all healthcare workers have considered either retiring, quitting their jobs or changing their careers altogether while the same percentage say that their mental health has deteriorated. This has resulted in over 55% of healthcare workers questioning their career choice and evidenced by health professionals leaving healthcare in droves causing increasing staffing shortages.
  • Mental Health: Research done over the last 18 months shows that on average 93% of healthcare workers are experiencing stress, 86% are experiencing anxiety, 76% report overall exhaustion and burnout and 75% shared that they were constantly feeling overwhelmed.
  • Symptoms: When surveyed, 82% of healthcare professionals reported emotional exhaustion, 70% reported difficulty sleeping, 68% experienced  physical exhaustion, 63% admitted to having work-related dread and over 40% of healthcare workers reported not feeling there was enough emotional support.
  • Top Stressors: Over 61% of healthcare providers reported stress over the uncertainty of when things would return to "normal", and almost 50% reported the top stress as the increased workloads brought on by the pandemic and expected to be maintained as the new norm.

Several years ago now, I was a mess. A mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted nurse with a body that was falling apart. Chronically anxious and having meltdowns in my car. Deep in debt and behind in taxes because I couldn’t rally the mental resources to deal with my finances. After years of studying full time plus working 12-16 hours 4-5 days a week, I was completely, utterly drained and I had nothing left to give...nothing to my career, my spouse, my family or my friends. 

Something had to change. So, I started my quest to figure out how to overcome chronic anxiety, persistent fatigue, stress and burnout layered over top of moral injury and vicarious trauma. Little by little, month by month, year by year and thousands of hours and dollars spent, I healed.

What I discovered is, it doesn't have to be hard or take forever. You don't have to spend 300 hours to become a Yoga teacher or a decade meditating in a cave. You can start feeling better today. And that's why I decided to host this summit. So I along with other healthcare and professional leaders could share simple and effective strategies we've discovered through experience, research, trial and error, and everyday practice putting one step in front of the other on our own journeys.

My goals with this summit are to empower you, lift your spirit and show you real steps to break free of the burnout cycle now. This information altered my life forever, and I know it will do the same for you. 
The part about burnout in healthcare that no one talks about is money. You may have gone to school with a caring heart and a deep desire to help others but everyone has bills to pay. Most healthcare professionals think they're financially "OK", but statistics tell us differently, 80% of households are two paycheques away from using savings (that most don't have) or not being able to pay their bills.

My personal journey includes many difficult financial and emotional challenges. I have been through divorce, been a single parent, remarried and raised a complex blended family that includes health care professionals. I worked as financial expert in banking for over two decades until years of Moral Injury led to depression, burnout, and eventually bankruptcy despite being in the industry. 

Each of these life events on their own had the potential to cripple me, but thanks to summits like this one, along with programs, mentors and expert coaching I was able to gather the resources and support I needed to completely rebuild my emotional and financial health. After an additional 15 years in financial services, I've supported thousands of clients and witnessed first hand how managing personal finances for many health professionals can lead to higher levels of confusion, anxiety, stress and yes even be a source of burnout. 

Money is a necessity, however, very few of us have been given the tools we need to truly master our personal finances and secure the future we want. My goals with this summit are to build your financial confidence, erase confusion and help you start healing from financial sources of personal and career burnout.
